A Child's Growth

He braces himself for the question.

The words already in the air though they have yet to be spoken.

The child takes a breath, the father readies his response.

But…wait.

The chores are completed?

Daily tasks accomplished?

Impossible! Miracle!

Perhaps a dream?

No, the child has grown.

Responsibility the water and the sun.
